First Russian International HR Congress

Master class: “How to become the HR business partner”

The First Russian International HR Congress “HR in Post-Crisis Economy, tendencies and priorities of the new decade” took place in Moscow from the 15-18 of March, 2011. This congress was organized by TM Consult, and more specifically by his managing partner Zosia Gerchikova. The crisis in Russia started in 2009, later than it did in Europe and the US and in 2010 it was fully recognized as such. However it seems that still not everyone is aware that after the recovery there will be the challenge of facing a new economy, especially in Russia. The focus of the conference was build on the strong belief that experiences in Europe, Asia and the US can help HR professionals all over the world, developing effective approaches and tools to deal with the post-crisis challenges. As it was said that a lot of issues which have been brought to the fore by the crisis are related to basic human nature and sociology and therefore not driven by country or nationality. The aims of the conference were:

  • Better understand the new economy and the HR priorities that come with it
  • Exchange the tools and approaches for dealing with post-crisis HR issues
  • Find solutions for the real business-cases.

Joske Diesfeldt and Johann Wuestenberg of the Association of Organization Development (AOO) were asked to conduct a master class: “How to become the HR business partner”.

Two important issues in the Russian context concerning HR:

  • HR professionals should develop, choose and appoint managers and employees who actually don’t want to waste time and energy, despite all the pressure after the crisis, constituting plans of short-term and long-term development, strategy, to the main trends and their personnel in daily work. It is necessary to allow companies and organizations to lower costs, lead to higher quality and flexibility increase in all processes and productivity;
  • The post-crisis economy is the time of reducing budgets and price fluctuations, however has also a useful part. All in the organization are forced to look critically at various processes in their organization, and to ask the question, whether those are convenient and profitable. It concerns HR too. Keeping an independent position in this process, HR plays a crucial role, plans changes, and makes them possible. Thus HR influences the improvement of the quality and efficiency of the organization and daily management. But a key condition is that the management should consider HR as a valuable business partner.

The master class “How to become the HR business partner” was designed for all HR directors and managers who are interested to establish their role as a valuable business partner within the company. How to achieve a real business impact and influence the decision makers? How to transform from a role of service center to a role of the business partner? Joske Diesfeldt and Johann Wuestenberg, leading this seminar, would concentrate on analysis of typical situations and training of practical skills on mutual relations of HR-managers with top-managers, CEOs and also on the processes determining the role HR of department. Johann Wuestenberg and Joske Diesfeldt are IODA members and very qualified business advisers and trainers.

The results/advantages of the master class would be:
Highly competent information on consultations and methods of influence and knowledge of examples of the best use of the used tools. The unique atmosphere would allow the participant to study and impart experience, using in practice ideas and tools with the use of which he/she is sometimes already familiar, sometimes not and to know how to use these in the daily work. The participant would find a rich variety of practical approaches and tools. Also he will be able to see as it is - "to be the valuable business partner in work", and find answers for the questions which have arisen and will be given answers by skilled advisers Joske Diesfeldt and Johann Wuestenberg. The participant receive skills of work with practical tools which will become useful for their work and which they can start using the next day. This interactive master class aspires to show acceptances which "will work" in the present state of affairs, simply and smoothly.
